The term ‘chatra’, in the sanskrit language, refers to an umbrella. Its original significance extends beyond the term’s conventional use. The umbrella was also a renowned status symbol of dignitaries in ancient india, and continues to hold much cultural significance even today. Depictions of the chatra are found in kandyan religious art and they are commonly sighted in stupas dotting the subcontinent as well. Our rationale for the selection of the word ‘chatra’ derives from its functional and practical purpose, plus it’s symbolic and aesthetic value in delivering rich imagery. The umbrella’s primary purpose is to protect a person from both the rain and the sun. It offers shelter from the elements, and allows an individual to set off set on a journey, unhindered. In much the same way, we envision your new home by the calm waters as providing a safe haven. Here, peace and tranquility are always close at hand.
